Uwe Scholz, former ballet director in Leipzig, was hailed as one of the most brilliant choreographic minds of his generation and he was certainly one of the most important German choreographers when he died in November 2004 at the early age of 45. The fragile-looking man, who had enjoyed a full dance and musical education from childhood, took up his first position as a choreographer with Marcia Haydée in Stuttgart when he was 22. He saw himself as a mixture between his teacher John Cranko and the influential George Balanchine, and the well over one hundred magically beautiful and extraordinarily musical choreographies that he created for houses such as the Opera in Vienna, La Scala, Zurich and Leipzig owe much to neoclassicism. This DVD recording focuses on the two interpretations of Le Sacre du Printemps that he created for „his“ Leipzig Ballet, the company that he led to international fame from1991to his untimely death. The evening opens with a legendary solo interpretation, danced by Giovanni di Palma to Stravinsky’s own adaptation for two pianos of his impressive “The Rite of Spring”. Often seen as Scholz’s autobiographical legacy, this choreography shows a dancer’s loneliness and despair in heartbreaking images. An emotive ensemble interpretation to the original orchestral version of the same piece forms the second half of the evening. Here Kiyoko Kimura takes on the leading role among the 56 dancers on the stage. The staging proves the ensemble to be one of the best contemporary ballet companies worldwide. Günter Atteln’s insightful documentary Soulscapes is a full-length homage to Uwe Scholz showing excerpts of his most important works. The film offers a warm and detailed account of a thoroughly fascinating life and includes some very personal interviews with a man who was consumed by his art until his last breath. Etiketler: |

'StreetFighter-Legacy' a liveaction short film fan project, based on the popular Capcom gaming franchise: Street Fighter. Officially endorsed by Capcom
StreetFighter Legacy has been a labour of love and passion project for its creator, Joey Ansah, who not only conceived and pitched the project, but also co-directed, co-wrote and choreographed it, alongside cameo'ing in the film. Collaborating, creative partner and long time friend Christian Howard was part of the project from day one, co-writing the script and story elements, as well as further down the line, storyboarding the film, being assistant fight choreographer and most importantly playing Ken Masters.
Streetlight repped Australian Director Owen Trevor came onboard to co-direct the film. His experience and style carried forward from shooting on 3 series of the acclaimed 'Top Gear' have really been an asset to the project and given it a strong visual flair.

It is no secret that 80's pop is back in vogue today. You can find element of that genre in everything from hard rock to pop to even metal bands around the world. The enduring popularity of 80's pop is a testament to the impact that this style of music had and continues to have. However, the genre may have a new face. Their name? Alphabeat.
Who is Alphabeat? An excellent question; they are a sextet pop group originally from Copenhagen, now located on the east side of London, England. They are much more than that, though. To listen to industry experts, they are the heir to the pop legacy that the 90's never answered. Alphabeat stands poised to take the world by (a happy) storm.
Really, you ask? Yes, to all appearances, they will soon be crowned the kings (and one queen) of modern pop, with roots that reach back decades. What is the reason for all this hyperbole about a band? Believe it or not, some of the top music critics and most acclaimed music sources in Britain (NME, Popjustice and more) have all acclaimed them one of the most perfect pop bands in the world. That is big praise coming from those particular sources, as well.
Alphabeat combines an unusual mixture, though. Obviously, they use the platform of spunk pop (wonky pop by their terminology), which appeals to kids and the young at heart. Beyond that, though, their lyrics have an undeniably adult bent. They discuss love and loss, pain and friendship, though all in an upbeat, almost frenetic setting. The band does an excellent job with their efforts and has garnered legions of fans, both in Denmark (their album went platinum almost immediately) and abroad. In the UK, they have made vast inroads into pop culture and gained quite a bit of airplay for their single Fantastic 6.
Where can you find Alphabeat? You can find them all over the place, actually. Their video on YouTube currently has 3 million hits (in the space of 3 months!), and their new website is up and running. The website features message forums where you can actually correspond with the band members. You can also watch videos, listen to the band's music and buy swag. Beyond that, you can find them touring around the UK, including an appearance at this year's Glastonbury festival and several other shows over the summer months.
